The Wallenberg family is one of the most influential and wealthy families in Sweden, renowned as bankers and industrialists.

The Wallenberg family

  • Jacob Wallenberg (17461778), sailor, clergyman and author with burlesque interests, particularly for women. Author of "Min Son på Galejan." Jacob was born Wallberg and changed his name to Wallenberg.
  • Marcus Wallenberg (17741833), nephew of Jacob Wallenberg, bishop in Linköping.
  • Andre Oscar Wallenberg (18161886), son of Marcus Wallenberg, naval officer, newspaper tycoon, and politician, visited the United States in 1837 and became interested in banking. Founder of Stockholms Enskilda Bank in 1856, the predecessor of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, that constitutes the basis for the family's economic influence.
  • Knut Agathon Wallenberg (18531938), son of Oscar Wallenberg, banker and politician, founder of Stockholm School of Economics (1909), Banque des pays du Nord (1911), and British bank of Northern commerce (1912) that in 1921 was merged with Hambros Bank. Through Knut Wallenberg's investments in LKAB, the ownership of the North-Swedish iron ore mines was kept in Swedish hands. Knut Wallenberg was Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs 19141917. He has also made the foundation to Saltsjöbaden, a suburb to Stockholm on the eastside.
  • Gustaf Wallenberg (18631937), son of Oscar Wallenberg, diplomat, envoy in Tokyo, Constantinople, and Sofia.
  • Marcus Wallenberg (senior) (18641943), son of Oscar Wallenberg, industrialist and banker. Marcus Wallenberg was engaged in the following companies of particular importance: ASEA, Ericsson, Hydro, Orkla, Papyrus AB, Stora Kopparbergs Bergslag, SAS, SAAB, Scania-Vabis and Skandia. From 1916 on, Marcus Wallenberg also took part in bilateral and multilateral international diplomacy and arbitration; most notably to broker a crucial trade agreement 19161918 between the United Kingdom and Sweden. His name is given to the Scania Museum in Södertälje, Sweden.
  • Axel Wallenberg (18741963), son of Oscar Wallenberg, industrialist and diplomat, envoy in Washington 19211926.
  • Raoul Oscar Wallenberg (18881911), son of Gustaf Wallenberg, naval officer. (Died of cancer three months before the birth of his son Raoul).
  • Jacob Wallenberg (senior) (18921980), son of Marcus Wallenberg (senior), naval officer, banker, industrialist, and diplomat. After the Nazi Party Machtübernahme Jacob Wallenberg participated in the trade negotiations the new German régime required. During World War II, he played a central role in the almost perpetual trade negotiations with Nazi Germany. Controlled the Wallenberg empire together with his brother Marcus.
  • Marcus Wallenberg (junior) (18991982), son of Marcus Wallenberg (senior), industrialist, banker and diplomat, who played a crucial role in the negotiations on Swedish–British trade agreements during World War II. Controlled the Wallenberg empire together with his brother Jacob until the time of his death.
  • Gustaf Wally (19051966), son of Axel Wallenberg, dancer, actor and theatre manager.
  • Raoul Wallenberg (19121947?), son of Raoul Oscar Wallenberg, stepson of Fredrik von Dardel, diplomat, acclaimed for his role in saving a great number, possibly tens of thousands, of Jews during the Nazi Holocaust in Hungary. Captured by the Soviet Union in Budapest, Hungary in January, 1945, near the end of World War II, and rumoured to be alive in Soviet prison camps until the 1970's. Subsequently, Wallenberg was awarded the status of Righteous Among the Nations by Israel.
  • Marc Wallenberg (19241971), son of Marcus Wallenberg, banker, industrialist.
  • Peter Wallenberg (senior) (1926– ), son of Marcus Wallenberg (junior), banker and industrialist. Succeeded his father in 1982 as leader of the Wallenberg Sphere Has 3 children: Jacob, Andrea and Peter.
  • Peder Wallenberg (senior) (1935– ), son of Jacob Wallenberg (Senior), architect, businessman and co-founder of the Carpe Vitam educational foundation. Has eight children: Fredrik (1967), Marie (1968). Jacob (1981), Nicholas (1983). Anna (1988), Peder (1991), Christopher-Robin (1994) and Alexander (1997).
  • Jacob Wallenberg (1956– ), son of Peter Wallenberg, currently chairman of Investor AB and former chairman of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken. He is a graduate of the Wharton School, and participated at the Bilderberg meeting of 2007.
  • Marcus Wallenberg (1956– ), son of Marc Wallenberg, former CEO of Investor AB, former chairman of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, where he succeeded Jacob Wallenberg. Appointed chairman of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Sweden until the end of 2008. He is a 1980 graduate of the distinguished Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in the United States.
  • Peter "Poker" Wallenberg (junior) (1959– ), son of Peter Wallenberg (senior).
  • Nane Maria Annan, half-niece of Raoul Wallenberg, wife of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
